I recently setup a few websites running WordPress and had the chance to write some scripts, and configure a few features, that should help to speed up content delivery on chessiedb.org. HTML pages are now compressed before being transferred, and most static content (like photos and images) are now hosted on a cloud-based server with better bandwidth. The static content is only mirrored (copied) to the cloud-based server, which allows us the flexibility of re-centralizing (if we wish), or easily moving the static content to another cloud service.
